Bio

On Christmas of 2008, Bryan Butterfield received a gift that would greatly alter his life’s course—a digital SLR camera. He has since been looking at the world through a different lens.

Bryan began his work at The Signpost in 2009, when he saw Allison Hess, former adviser of the publication, adjusting newspapers on a rack. He asked if there were photographer positions available. Fortunately, there were.

Within three months of becoming employed at The Signpost, he worked his way up to photo editor. Bryan then quit his day job to follow his passion. He is also an official freelancer for the Standard Examiner.

Bryan’s favorite types of photography are portrait and event photography. Bryan has seen several bands through his lens, including OK Go, Dashboard Confessional, and T Minus 5. He has also photographed Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints President Thomas S. Monson, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Mission Improvable Comedy, and the Special Olympics.

He has won various awards including 2nd place in Professional Portraiture at the Utah State Fair, Professional Best of Show at the Weber County Fair, First Place in Portrait and First place in Commercial at the Weber State Fair, and multiple first and second place awards from the state chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

Bryan has a professional photography business, Lighting Bryan Photography, and enjoys capturing weddings and local events. He also enjoys senior and family portraiture. Visit his website at www.lightingbryan.com.
